The view across Llangattock towards Sugarloaf Mountain

Llangattock is surrounded by the stunning scenery of the Brecon Beacons National Park, with Sugarloaf Mountain dominating the views across the Usk Valley.  The village nestles underneath vast limestone crags which once supplied the Industrial Revolution. History surrounds Llangattock, but now the lime workings and cliffs, the beautiful Monmouth and Breconshire Canal, the hundreds of miles of footpaths and bridleways draw walkers, boaters, riders, climbers and cavers from far and wide.

The community of Llangattock is home to around 1,000 people, who live in the village itself and in the surrounding hamlets of Hillside, Legar, Dardy and Ffawyddog.  There is recreation ground with spectacular views of the mountains, a pub, a restaurant and a hotel and plenty of places to stay.  You can hire boats to cruise the waterways, ride horses, hike the hills or climb the limestone cliffs. There are hundreds of miles of footpaths in the Brecon Beacons, with some strenuous climbs and more gentle ambles along the Monmouthsire and Brecon Canal.  If you just want to take in the sights, why not enjoy sitting on one of the benches in the council-owned Glebe Field overlooking Crickhowell Bridge. The town of Crickhowell, with its award-winning High Street, lies beyond.

If you want to find out more about the general area, a good place to start is the Understanding Welsh Places website or visit our history page.

If you live here, there is plenty to do, with volunteer groups picking litter, managing woodlands, cultivating allotments, running, keeping fit, crafting, knitting and more.  Social activity revolves around the council-owned and maintained recreation ground and the village pub, restaurant and hotel. There is a primary school and community hall.

The Community Council wants to build on that community spirit, support its residents and work with volunteers to make Llangattock an even better place to live or visit.
