CONSULTATION: Crickhowell and Llangattock Conservation Area Character Appraisal and Boundary Review

Brecon Beacons National Park Authority is currently in the process of reviewing the Crickhowell and Llangattock Conservation Area which was designated in 1969 in recognition of its special historic character.  Section 69 of the Town and Country Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 places a duty on Local Planning Authorities (LPAs) to review and consider boundary revisions to their Conservation Areas from ‘time to time’.

As part of this review we propose to split the existing conservation area currently covering both settlements so that Crickhowell and Llangattock each has its own conservation area.  In addition to splitting the existing conversation area, the conservation area review also proposes amendments to the conservation area boundary deleting some areas and extending it in others.  We have produced draft Conservation Area Appraisals and proposed boundary maps for each settlement.  The draft appraisal documents set out the features that contribute to the distinctiveness of the conservation areas and identifies opportunities for their protection and enhancement.  A copy of the map showing the proposed changes to the conservation area boundary is enclosed.

In line with best practice we would like to encourage everyone with an interest in the Crickhowell and Llangattock Conservation Areas to contribute their views.  The consultation period starts on 28th November 2019 and will run until 20th February 2020.

The draft conservation area appraisals can be viewed at the link below:

Copies of the document will also be available for inspection during normal office hours at Plas y Ffynnon, Cambrian Way, Brecon LD3 7HP.

Public exhibitions are planned for Crickhowell and Llangattock during January 2020. The exhibitions will provide information on the conservation areas and officers from Brecon Beacons National Park Authority will be present to answer any questions that you may have.  You will be advised of the date and venue these exhibitions nearer the time.
