Thank you to all those people who replied to our survey and attended the public meeting in the Community Hall last Wednesday. There were 194 responses to the survey at 65 people at the meeting. After careful examination of the survey responses and the forms submitted at the meeting, the group of residents organising the project have concluded that there is sufficient public support and that, working together, the project can go ahead.
More than 70 people have volunteered so far. Some with specialist skills and experience are working as part of the core project team to create a Community Benefit Society which will construct a business case and apply for grant funding to create the hub/shop/café. So far people have volunteered in the following roles:
Project manager
Social Business Consultant
Accountant
Legal/Governance
Communications
Volunteer Coordinator
Building Advisor
More volunteers are welcome. In particular, the group is still looking for someone with specialist knowledge of retail market research. There will also be opportunities to help with the build, creating community events and in the cafe/shop. If you know of someone and they could spare some time, please get in touch. Over the next few weeks, the project team will create a detailed project plan, conduct market research and put together a business plan. We will also contact key community stakeholders like the Horseshoe Pub, the Community Hall, Rectory Hotel and shops and businesses in Crickhowell to see how we can work together.
